Bruce Lee, the man most people identify as the face of martial arts, had another passion most people do not associate him with: philosophy. With a degree in philosophy from the University of Washington and over 2,000 books on the subject, Lee was as great of a philosopher and intellectual as he was a martial artist. After reading several books written by and of Bruce Lee I was able to open my eyes to the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism, a school of thought of which Lee himself was a student. The following are several quotes from the master. Continue »

17 Oct 2010For those of you who have difficulty trusting others I say this:
If you cannot trust others, how can you trust your mistrust of others? How do you know that your mistrust of others is not wrong as well?
Let that marinate.

16 Oct 2010Lao-tzu, the ancient Chinese philosopher, spoke of water as the weakest substance in the world, yet there is nothing you can compare to it that can overcome both hard and soft. You can cut water with a knife and it lets the knife go right through yet water is also responsible for cutting the Grand Canyon out of rock!
It’s a common Western idea to associate masculinity with strength and femininity with weakness. The whole concept of the “tough guy,” rugged and muscular, is really a model for weakness. One would assume that this tough exterior would work to protect itself – but so much of what we fear from the outside gets to us because we fear our own weakness on the inside. Continue »

14 Oct 2010We have always been lead to believe that the perfect job is doing what you love and getting paid for it. Kids growing with a passion for music or sports dreamed of becoming a pop star or an athlete; get paid to do what you love, right?
Growing up my passion was art. I knew since age five that I would grow up to be a cartoonist, work for Disney and become a millionaire. There was never any doubt in my mind. I even have my first drawing saved! Once I got to high school and realized that my school had a building dedicated to fine arts I knew I was on the right track and meeting other students who shared my passion further fueled my desire. I won art competitions, had a nationally recognized portfolio and earned a scholarship to the largest art school in the country. I was on top of the world! Continue »

12 Oct 2010It’s a strange thing…honesty. You want others to be honest with you, but not too honest as to say something you might deem too bold, or rude. You’ll take the compliments, because it makes you feel good about yourself but God forbid someone says something you don’t like. That’s not fair now is it? Either you want people to be honest with you or not; it’s not a case by case basis.
If you want my honest opinion, I will give it you. It may not necessarily be what you want to hear, but I wasn’t brought into this world to make you feel good about yourself, unfortunately that’s not my mission in life. How you react is up to you. All I can do is be is honest and leave it at that. Continue »

Our love affair would be on probation for a period of three months and depending on compatibility, would be made permanent. Of course, upon completion of probation, there will be continuous on-the-relationship training and relationship appraisal schemes leading up to promotion from lover to spouse. Continue »
